![]() ![]() (The shelves were too wide for the router table & fence. The flush trimming operation requires a wide base on the router and clamping additional square and true temporary pieces to the 3/4" thick shelves I was making to ensure a wide, stable reference surface for the hand held router base. I personally found calipers better than a steel rule for tuning-in the set-up-more precise and easier to read. Bosch Carbide-Tipped Router Bits deliver precision and durability. I used vertical feather boards on the router table for all operations and horizontal feather boards where possible on narrower work pieces. Bosch 1-7/8-in Carbide-Tipped Tongue and Groove Router Bit. The cleat or fence affixed to the workpiece with two sided tape is essential (see video). I made multiple passes of 1/16-1/8" on the router table for both the tongue and the groove to reach full depth. This bit is designed to cut tongue and grooves on through thick material. As others mention, be very patient and careful with set-up on scraps of the same thickness as your work piece-when you're spot-on save those for set-up jigs and to periodically check your finished product to be sure nothing is drifting. Thank you for your feedback regarding the 84623M Tongue and Groove bit. I am very pleased with the #7828 set with the #7733 matching bits and #7804 trim bit. ![]() Anti-Kickback - Super- flick finish /feW/ TONGUE & GROOVE for FLOORING/PANELING, ETC. I finally just sanded them off with a belt sander. AZ 85547 1-800-47 2- 69 BO Great Router Bits and Shafer Cutters or. It helps if you have a fence on the table that you can raise up the width of the exposed portion of the male piece, allowing it to go under the fence. (By setting up the fence very accurately, I was able to eliminate that step but it takes a long time to do it.) I also found that trying to use the straight bit to cut off the excess didn't work very well. That would allow you to run the plywood directly against the fence, leaving the same small shoulder on the plywood, eliminating the need for taping a board to it. This 2 bit tongue & groove flooring router bits set cuts 1/4 tongues. I wonder if it would be a good idea to make the tongue bit cut a a small shoulder perpendicular to the plywood face on each side. If the bit cuts off more stock on the second pass, it isn't centered and you will have to raise or lower the bit. To make setup simpler, make a trial cut on one edge, flip it upside down and cut the same side again. These bits are hard to set up by the method shown in the video because they have to be perfectly centered on the work piece or the shoulders will be different widths and it won't work it will leave a gap on one side of the finished panel. Fortunately, I have a large (1") cove bit that allowed me to tapper the tongues a little bit so the planks would slide together more easily. It was extremely difficult to even get my short test pieces together and almost impossible with my three-foot planks. It seemed fine when I tested with soft pine, but with cherry is was a different matter. This seems to be a trend and I see no advantage to it. The 1/8' rounded tongue and 1/8' square stock allow for easier installation with uneven surfaces. They are only useful in aligning the router table's fence. The 2 bit system provides for interlocking tongues and grooves with a V-groove on the face. The first problem for me is the guide bearings do not ride on the stock. They were machining precision router bodies for a customer. I tested the bits when they arrived on some soft pine scrap I had laying around the shop. Whiteside Machine was originally a machine shop, many decades ago. There are two things I don't like about this set. I covered three sides of the island base with random-width T&G cherry vertical planks. I purchased this T&G set for a large kitchen island project. Work OK, But not my preference (3/5), Sep 18, 2021
